Severe weather causes damage at Parchman prison

SUNFLOWER COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Severe weather damaged a unit at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.

Officials with the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) said the unit suffered roof damage during a storm on August 19, 2025.

According to MDOC, there were no injuries to staff or inmates. The inmates in the affected zones were relocated to other buildings on prison grounds.

We are working diligently to assess any additional damages and make the necessary repairs.
