JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A Jackson City Councilman said he’s pushing for stronger security measures after two shootings in his ward in less than one week.
Three people were shot at Club Metro on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on August 16, 2025. Police said Dameio Milton died from his injuries.
According to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, the club owner left the scene and did not speak with investigators who responded.
Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, said real security is the first step to making people feel safe.
“I ain’t talking about some crackhead, or drinking, or drugs. We’re talking about real security at these nightclubs. We want people to know this is an isolated situation from people who did not live in Jackson or this neighborhood. It’s not going to tarnish this neighborhood,” Stokes said.
Jackson Mayor John Horhn plans to release more details on city safety measures later this week.
