Teen arrested for shooting at school bus in Gulfport

GULFPORT, Miss. (WJTV) – Gulfport police said a 15-year-old was arrested for bringing a gun onto school property and for shooting at a school bus.

Police said Kaiden Jeremiah Ashford, of Gulfport, was arrested on August 20, 2025, and charged with with one count of possession of a handgun on school property and one count of shooting at a vehicle.

Officers responded to the area of Turnberry Avenue and George Street around 4:00 p.m. on August 18, 2025, in reference to a report of a person with a gun.

Police said Ashford was engaged in an argument with fellow students while riding a school bus. During the incident, police said the teenager was in possession of a firearm. After exiting the bus, investigators said Ashford fired the weapon several times in the direction of the school bus before fleeing the scene.

Ashford was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
