Video shows Austin Drummond attacking inmate in prison

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Dramatic video obtained by WREG appears to show Austin Drummond attacking a fellow inmate while incarcerated in a common area.

Drummond is accused of killing a family of four then leading law enforcement on a days-long manhunt before he was finally captured earlier this month.

As WREG has reported, Drummond has an extensive criminal record. Now we’re seeing how he received some of his charges.

In the video Drummond and another inmate repeatedly go after a man, not letting up.

At one point he falls to the ground, but Drummond continues to jab at him with an object. About 20 seconds into the video shared with us, prison guards appear as a woman looks to spray a chemical agent from the distance.

Two other guards accompany her, but Drummond circles back, once again coming at the fellow inmate, disregarding the guards now in the room. The man walks back, falling to the floor, now shirtless. The beating continues until the guards come back again, and Drummond walks away.

Drummond was indicted for attempted murder for the attack.

Monday he appeared in court, where his bond on that incident was also revoked.

But his attorney addressed the video, now circulating social media=, telling the judge he has serious concerns about it being leaked.

“The actual video of the alleged incident or more accurately selective portions of it that were shared on social media today while we were in court which is very suspicious and concerning,” attorney Drew Farmer said.

But the District Attorney said he wanted to make it clear he had nothing to do with the video release.

“I don’t know if I even have the video he’s talking about,” D.A. Danny Goodman said.

We reached out to the Tennessee Department of Corrections about the video, and we are waiting to hear back.

We also reached out to Drummond’s attorneys for further comment about it and are waiting for a response.
