Man wanted for two homicides arrested at Brandon hotel

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies announced Matthew Brian Kidd was arrested early Friday morning at a hotel in Brandon. He is a suspect in two homicides that occurred over the past two days.

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey said Kidd was wanted in connection to a homicide that occurred in the 3300 block of Highway 80 on August 27, 2025. The victim was identified as William Earl Morris.

Brandon police said Kidd was also wanted in connection to the fatal shooting of Christian Storey on Gayden Street on August 28, 2025.

Bailey said authorities received a tip that Kidd had checked into a Brandon hotel. He said witnesses had seen Kidd on the news and called law enforcement.

Brandon police and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team responded to the hotel and executed a search warrant. Kidd was arrested without incident, and a weapon was recovered from the room.

Kidd was charged in connection to both homicides. He will also be charged with two counts of home invasion and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Kidd appeared in court on August 29, 2025. He was denied bond, and his next court appearance was set for September 9 at 9:00 a.m.


BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – Brandon police are searching for an armed and dangerous suspect after a fatal shooting.

The shooting occurred in the 100 block of Gayden Street around 6:00 p.m. on August 28, 2025.

Brandon Police Chief Joseph French said when officers arrived at the scene, they discovered 33-year-old Christian Storey deceased inside the residence.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Matthew Brian Kidd, of Brandon. He is considered to be armed and dangerous. French said the public should not approach Kidd under any circumstance.
