JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Mayor John Horhn presented the Key to City to “American Idol” winner Jamal Roberts.
The Meridian native’s debut single, “Heal,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs and Gospel Digital Song Sales charts.
“Jamal’s story is a testament to the power of resilience, authentic storytelling, and the enduring influence of soul music rooted in our state,” said Horhn. “By presenting him with the Key to the City, we not only celebrate his success, but honor his role as an ambassador for our state including the Capital City.”
The Key to the City was presented to Roberts during a concert at the Jackson Convention Complex on September 19, 2025.
Presented by The Kirkland Group and Alcorn State University Athletics, the concert helped raise vital funds to support Alcorn State student-athletes.
“I am so excited about this. That people would come out and support this fundraiser, is just amazing. People love Jamal Roberts. They love Alcorn State University, and we just wanted to be able to support in any way that we can,” said Carla Kirkland, CEO of The Kirkland Group.
