Entergy Mississippi starts $300M grid upgrade

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Entergy Mississippi is launching the biggest power grid update in its history. Officials said the upgrade will bring more reliable electricity and save customers money.

The plan, which is called Superpower Mississippi, includes installing stronger utility poles, expand tree trimming and rolling out advanced smart grid technology. The goal is to reduce power outages by 50% across the state.

Entergy officials said the upgrades will make the grid stronger and more resilient. Thanks to new revenues from industrial customers, like Amazon and AVAIO, the $300 million investment comes at no added cost to residential customers.

”We’re increasing a 50% increase in reliability spend at no cost to customers because the revenues that are coming in for this new industrial growth in the area. So, we’re excited about this, to bring these new investments and to improve the grid, improve service to our customers and to our communities,” said Haley Fisackerly, president and CEO of Entergy Mississippi.

He said the company’s aging grid has been in need of upgrades for years. Reliability work will begin immediately to strengthen the grid and improve service.
