Jackson police search for missing mother and daughter

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police are searching for a mother and her three-year-old daughter.

According to police, Shardee McGill and her daughter, Janae McGill, were reported missing on September 23, 2025, around 8:30 p.m. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) activated the Missing and Endangered Child notification for Janae McGill.

Investigators said they were informed by Johnathan McGill that the two left home on September 22, 2025, and were last seen in the 300 block of Northtown Drive. They were believed to be in a black 2017 Chevy Equinox. The vehicle was later located in Epes, Alabama, and was not occupied.

Jackson police said they’re working with authorities in Alabama to locate Shardee and Janae McGill. They said Johnathan McGill was taken into custody by the Alabama Police Department.
