JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – 911 systems across Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama were down Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said AT&T was reporting damage to some of its fiber optic lines and that was affecting 911 services across the state.
“The state of Mississippi is in close contact with AT&T. AT&T crews are working to assess the damage and restore service as quickly as possible,” said Gov. Tate Reeves (R-Miss.).
AT&T also reported crews were working to repair multiple fiber cuts that affected 911 service for some customers in Louisiana and Mississippi.
By Thursday evening, multiple departments reported 911 service had been restored.
“911 service is operating normally across affected areas in Louisiana and Mississippi following a disruption earlier today. We understand how important these services are and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience,” an AT&T spokesperson said in an email.
AT&T said 911 service continued to operate normally Thursday night across the previously affected areas.
“The issues were caused by fiber cuts made by third parties. At no time did Alabama, Louisiana or Mississippi experience statewide 9-1-1 disruptions. We understand how important these services are and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience,” the spokesperson said.
