JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A new date has been set for Jackson Mayor John Horhn’s inaugural State of the City Address.
The address will take place on October 21, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. in the Art Garden at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson.
The mayor plans to outline his administration’s progress and vision for Jackson’s future, including achievements from his first 100 days, initiatives in infrastructure, public safety, economic growth, government accountability, and community development.
Horhn said his first few months have been filled with long hours and tough decisions, but he’s focused on building a strong team and restoring hope across the city.
“It’s been fraught with a lot of hard work. A lot of sleepless nights. We’ve been working on building a team. We think we’ve got a pretty good team. We have a few more finishing touches we’ve got to put on that team, but I feel good about our ability to give folks hope that things are going to be better and that folks are encouraged, because they’re seeing things actually getting done in our city,” Horhn said.
Residents said seeing their mayor active in the community makes a difference, especially when it comes to transparency and trust.
“The closer government is to us, the more influence that government position has on our lives. And I think that when we have the opportunity to hear what they’re thinking, it makes us more intelligent voters, and it gives us an opportunity to hear directly from them and give us information as to how we’re going to vote the next time around,” said Joann Mickens, a Jackson resident.
