OXFORD, Miss. — A federal judge Tuesday imposed a restrictive 24-hour house arrest and a $60,000 unsecured bond for Lindsey Whiteside, the former DeSoto County coach who was convicted on state charges of sex crimes.

Whiteside will stay in detention until certain terms are met, including housing that is compliant.

The state has asked and been granted a 24-hour stay on the decision to release Whiteside. She will be required to wear an ankle monitor, among other restrictions.

Whiteside is facing federal charges for allegedly transporting a minor across state lines to commit sex crimes.

Defense Attorney Tony Farese questioned the timing of the three-count Federal Indictment that put Whiteside in cuffs just days after pleading guilty in Desoto County to sexual battery of a minor.

“Ten days afterwards…I think I’ve said everything I need to say in the courtroom…it’s pretty obvious isn’t it,” said Farese.

Farese claims the federal indictment, which alleges Whiteside transported a minor across state lines to commit sex crimes, came after District Attorney Matthew Barton was outraged at what he said was a “lenient” sentence imposed October 13th on Whiteside.

A federal indictment unsealed by a judge accuses Whiteside of taking a minor from Tennessee to Mississippi and then to Georgia for the purpose of committing sex crimes.

“It’s disturbing that this county has reached his level and this State is no different than the rest of the nation and that’s what’s disturbing to me and that should disturb every citizen,” said Farese.

Count One and Count Two accuse Whiteside of knowingly transporting an individual who was not 18 from Tennessee to Mississippi and from Mississippi to Georgia with the intent to engage in sexual activity in July of last year.

Count Three alleges from around May 2024 through November, Whiteside knowingly used a facility or means of interstate commerce, to persuade, induce, entice, and coerce a minor to engage in sexual activity.

During her initial court appearance last Friday, Whiteside pleaded not guilty to the charges.

“I’m not happy with it but no…that’s all i”m gonna say… I’m just not happy with the way it turned out,” said a friend of Whiteside’s victim on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Whiteside was sentenced to three years of house arrest after pleading guilty to state charges of sexual battery of a minor.
