MEMPHIS, Tenn. — After 31 years in business, Sam’s Town Casino in Tunica will permanently close Sunday, Nov. 9 at 10 p.m. due to “market conditions.”

This closure puts 175 to 200 employees out of work.

Its owners cited declining market conditions, leaving just five casinos in Tunica, Mississippi.

Sam’s Town Vice President of Corporate Communications, David Strow, said the following in a statement:

“This was not an easy decision for our Company. However, demand throughout the northwest Mississippi market has declined significantly over the past 20 years, with several of Tunica’s original casinos closing since 2014. Our decision to close Sam’s Town is a result of these market conditions and follows our best efforts to adjust the business to address lower demand. These decisions are by far the most difficult we have to make as a company, and we regret that this was necessary.”

“They’ve had a good run and Boyd Gaming has been a great corporate citizen to Tunica and we’re sad to lose them,” said Webster Franklin, head of the Tunica Convention and Visitors Bureau.
