JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Monthly Dumpster Day on Saturday, April 9 proved to be a frustrating experience for many Jackson neighbors who had to wait hours to dump their trash, with some leaving it on the ground.
Neighbors lined up at the former Metro Center Dillard’s parking lot to dump their large trash items like furniture and appliances.
They said they did not expect the long delay. Some people left with the garbage they came with.
Richard’s Disposal headed up to the event, providing four large containers for trash. After those filled quickly, neighbors were directed to unload their items into large piles on the ground.
One neighbor said she city should have postponed this month’s Roll-off Dumpster Day until the Jackson City Council and mayor reach an agreement about trash collection.
“I’ve been here for two and a half hours now, just waiting to discard those items. I hope we’re not victims of some type of political ploy to appear to people as if things are being taken care of with whatever garbage collection fight the politicians are in,” said Jackson neighbor Shambani Watts.
Many neighbors said they’re grateful for the Roll-off Dumpster Day resource, but are urging city officials to quickly come to a garbage contract decision, as they are the ones feeling the direct effects.
