Two arrested after attempting to enter Brandon High School

BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Brandon Police Department said a 20-year-old and 17-year-old were charged with trespassing after attempting to enter Brandon High School on Thursday, February 16.

The 20-year-old was identified as Richard Lee Taylor. Police said they won’t identify the 17-year-old because he is a minor.

Officials said even though the suspects were not armed, investigators found two paintball guns, a handheld stun gun, a novelty keychain pocketknife and a digital drug scale in their vehicle.

Taylor was booked into the Rankin County Jail, and the minor was booked into the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Center.


BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – Two people were taken into custody after attempting to enter Brandon High School Thursday morning.

Leaders with the Rankin County School District (RCSD) said the two unarmed individuals were spotted by school staff and escorted to the office for questioning by the administration.

Brandon police were also at the scene, and the individuals were taken into custody.

“Thanks to the quick action of school staff and the assistance of Brandon Police Department, all students and employees are safe,” the district said in a statement.
