UPDATE:
CANTON, Miss. (WJTV) – Canton Police Chief Otha Brown confirmed the person, who was at the center of a standoff, has died.
Deputy Commander Carlos Cosby, with the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, identified the man as Jadarius Smith.
According to Cosby, Smith was wanted for arson in Inglewood, California, which happened February 2023. A vehicle was burned in the case.
Cosby said Smith, who was a Canton native, shot himself while negotiating with law enforcement.
CANTON, Miss. (WJTV) – Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a home in Canton on Wednesday, July 19.
The incident happened on Sherwood Drive. Agents with the U.S. Marshals Service, Madison County deputies and Canton police responded to the scene.
Officials at the scene said U.S. Marshals were serving a warrant at a home.
