JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – There was a heated war of words on Thursday during a news conference held by Hinds County District 2 Supervisor David Archie.
Archie claimed there was election fraud and corruption due to the outcome of Tuesday’s Primary Election. The incumbent supervisor lost the election to Anthony Smith. They were both running as Democrats.
Archie described the election outcome as a high-tech election heist and blamed former Hinds County Election Commissioner Toni Johnson. He said the fraud has happened in other communities around the state, including Yazoo and Hinds counties.
“ES&S (Election Systems & Software), which is the election system in software, has been together on the winning side for these candidates,” Archie stated.
He called for a thorough investigation by the Hinds County District Attorney. He said he plans to ask the FBI and the Department of Justice to intervene.
Attorney Lisa Ross refuted the claim. She said there was no machine manipulation and that Johnson is innocent.
“The voters went into the polls, and this time, they did not choose Supervisor Archie as they did in the past. Now, this is not Supervisor Archie’s first time mentioning that there were voter irregularities when he lost an election. And the way to prove fraud and throw the election cases is, first of all, let’s go review the ballots,” said Ross.
Smith said he trusts the system and believes voters want to change.
“I’m no stranger to politics. I just not been in the scene. I’ve been working in the background, so I’ve been helping people for over 30 years. So, I’ll stay committed, and I will help people because I am a man of passion. I’m a man of God, and I believe that we have to help each other,” said Smith.
WJTV 12 News reached out to ES&S, and we are waiting to hear back.
