RICHLAND, Miss. (WJTV) – A body was recovered from Richland Creek on Tuesday, September 19.

Richland police said officers assisted Jackson police with the recovery of the body. The investigation is being conducted by the Jackson Police Department (JPD), according to Richland police.

Richland investigators said this appears to have been an isolated incident that occurred outside of the city.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said the death investigation was turned over to her office due to the suspected fatal incident happened in Jackson.

The coroner said the body will be sent to the State Crime Lab and the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to confirm the cause and manner of death, as well as confirm the victim’s identity.
